Pregnancy Yoga

About the Classes

I am passionate about helping women on their journey to motherhood. Pregnancy is undoubtedly one of the most special times in a woman's life, but that doesn't mean it is always easy.

Your physical body is undergoing huge changes; maintaining strength and stamina is key, along with opening up the body (unless you have pelvic pain in which case we encourage maintaining alignment and offer the appropriate modifications). There are also times to move slowly, focusing on gentle stretching and restorative poses; the class isn't about burning calories but maintaining comfort during pregnancy and birth, and learning to trust your body. Emotional well-being is equally important: making time to bond with baby (whether this is first baby or third); celebrating life within and preparing yourself mentally for the big day.

YogaBellies for Pregnancy sessions are unique, revolutionary prenatal yoga classes for pregnant women (suitable from 14 weeks gestation onwards until birth). If you already have a regular practice then you may start earlier (it is much better to practice pregnancy yoga than continue with your regular practice but we suggest 14 weeks due to the unstable nature of the first trimester). Before 14 weeks, we encourage focusing on rest and breathing techniques instead.

There are sixteen different class themes, so depending on how long you attend (see class block details below), you will get the benefit of topics which include: Back pain in pregnancy; Opening the hips & pelvis; Relieving sciatic pain; Rise & shine practice; A seated practice; Heartburn & digestive issues; Building strength & stamina; Getting baby in the right position; Bonding with baby; Emotional balance; Building confidence; Celebrating life within; Your beautiful birth; Comfort during birth; Trusting your body; And, finally, the big day.

Each week in class we alternate between a physical focus and other more emotional topics (I am certified in Birth Rocks training too). We start the class connecting with one another; move onto a discussion centred around our theme; work through breathing techniques for pregnancy and birth (pranayama); use traditional yoga postures (asana), adapted and beneficial for pregnancy and the common ailments associated with pregnancy; finishing with a combination of self-hypnosis and yoga nidra (deep relaxation). Each class lasts 1hr 15 minutes and the classes are gentle and safe for all women, whether you are new to yoga or have years of practice (86% of our students have never set foot in a yoga class before).

TIPS ON BOOKING

To complete the form, please select your chosen block size. Select the first date and time you wish to start, then ‘select and make recurring’ to add your number of weeks. If the class is full, or there is no class a certain week, the date will show as unavailable. In this case, please add appointments until you have the number of dates to match your chosen block size. This system also allows you to remove dates you can’t make because of your own commitments.

Please note during 2023 classes return from 5 Jan. There are no classes on 3 Apr, 6 Apr, 10 Apr, 13 Apr, 1 May, 8 May, 29 May, 1 Jun, 5 Jun, 31 Jul, 3 Aug, 28 Aug, 23 Oct, 26 Oct, 18 Dec, 21 Dec, 25 Dec, 28 Dec.

What do I need to bring?

I will provide all yoga equipment (mats, blankets, pillows, and eye masks) to use at your discretion. It is your choice if you would like to bring your own mat in addition to place on top.

I would advise that you bring a bottle of water and wear some loose comfortable clothes for your yoga practice, including layers so you can easily adjust depending on whether you are lying still in relaxation or being more physical.
